In Foxy Production’s group exhibition, “Networked Nature,” several artists came together to explore the environment through the use of technology. Ranging from collectives to single artists, the participants included C5, FutureFarmers, Shih-Chieh Huang, Philip Ross, Stephen Vitiello, and Gail Wight.  Robotics, hydroponic atmospheres, time-lapse video and global positioning systems all became their artistic materials throughout the duration of the project.

Networked Nature contained several eye-opening works, from a micro-environment within an inflatable installation to charted, colorful mold growth. One piece I found particularly innovative was C5’s project on geocaching – an incredibly relevant activity today. Their project became interactive in asking geocachers for specific site recommendations, before sending their member on a motorcycle trip to each of these destinations. I think geocaching is a clever way to attract attention to the environment, and it stands as an intriguing overlap between technology and nature.
